Review by Tenzys Tech
CPU
The CPU of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 678 is clocked at 2.2 GHz, while the Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 is only clocked at 2.0 GHz, but the Snapdragon 678 has an outdated Cortex A76 core while Snapdragon 690 have updated Cortex A77 cores. Because of enhanced or updated cores, the snapdragon 690 offers a higher performance improvement and is hence a better alternative than the Snapdragon 678.
GPU
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 678 has an Adreno 612 GPU based on 14nm technology with 845 MHz frequency, whereas the Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 has an Adreno 619L and is based on 8nm lithography with 950 MHz frequency. To be honest, Adreno 619L is a far superior GPU to Adreno 612 in terms of fabrication technology and overclocking.
Energy efficiency and battery life
As the facts are seen by the technical specifications of both the SoCs, the Snapdragon 678 is built on 11nm process technology while on other hand, Snapdragon 690 is built on 8nm technology. This concludes that Snapdragon 678 is better than Snapdragon 690 as the small size semiconductor indicates the more no. of transistors embedded in SOC (System On Chip) which is not only energy efficient but also significantly enhances the performance of the chipset.
